What You Gonna Do

Rock Ya Babe

Brothers Gonna Work It Out 1970

DJ Peril is a name synonymous with the Australian Hip Hop Scene. Peril has contributed to the Development of Australian Hip Hop through Break dancing, Graffiti & Hip Hop Music since its earliest days. From his first group The Island Boys right through to 1200 Techniques he has been at for front of pushing and developing Australian Hip Hop.

DJ Peril has been the driving force behind Australia most recognised Hip Hop group 1200 Techniques but beyond the group Perils passion lies in his Production, DJ-ing & Graffiti. Peril has produced Both 1200 Techniques Albums ‘Choose One’ & ‘Consistency Theory’ as well as currently working on a solo project & EP for local Melbourne Emcee Surreal & his partner Nate B.

He has been one of Melbourne’s most respected DJ’s for many years. With solid club sets he has been able to mix it between hardcore Hip Hop & R n B through to the more obscure electro funk, rare groove, soul & original breaks.

Earlier this year DJ Peril with Rubber Records put into place his own local & independent record label STREET ELITE. Street Elite sees the conception of Australia’s newest force in the Hip Hop scene. The Label was started as means to spread understanding of Hip Hop in this country. “Street Elite is about nurturing original “Up & Coming” Australian Hip Hop artists that are looking for an outlet to express their music”.

And A Few Words about hip hop sensations, SUBURBAN INTELLECT

Hard hitting Australian Hip Hop has a new face…. the lyrically vicious Suburban Intellect consisting of Hip Hop pioneer 22 year veteran DJ Peril (1200 Techniques) and South East Melbourne duo Surreal and Nate B providing Australia with some premium Hip Hop. Suburban Intellect is what the Hip Hop culture has been waiting for and has already turned heads in the industry and are setting the standard for Hip Hop in 2005.

After the success of the single “What you gonna do” (keep an eye out for the video) single off “DJ Peril presents Street Elite EP” Suburban Intellect has just put the final touches on there own “Don’t Sleep” mixtape. The “Don’t Sleep” mixtape was created to show Australia the diversity these boys can bring to Hip Hop and their ability to spit skillfully over any track. The boys have recorded a club banger which will be released as a high profile single and video on the new DJ Peril album and are currently working on their own highly anticipated debut album set for release next year.

Suburban Intellect are creating quite a large reputation for their highly energetic live shows having performed along side international acts such as Busta Rhymes, Jin (Ruff Ryders), Digital Underground and Australia’s own 1200 Techniques. All three are members of the worldwide Hip Hop Movement Zulu Nation which promotes peace and unity in the Hip Hop culture and were asked to perform at Australia’s first Zulu Jam. Both Surreal and Nate B have been Emcees individually for around 8 years and came together after being introduced by mutual friends and at a bus stop and started beat boxing and exchanged rhymes and the rest is history. 20-year-old Surreal earned his rep through taking out the Victorian Heat of The Battle for Supremacy in 2004 (Australia and New Zealand’s biggest freestyle Emcee Battle) and has been selected to represent the Australian team 2 years running.

He is regarded by many as on of Australia’s best freestyle Emcee’s. Nate B with his thought provoking Street Poetry is one Emcee you should look out for, with his smooth husky delivery, he evokes images of a Barry White style baritone. Melbourne has given nothing but love to this seriously flavoursome combination. Suburban Intellect and Street Elite is built on the respect for the past and present in Hip Hop culture and bring both worlds together. DJ Peril has built Suburban Intellect upon the foundations of what Hip Hop was originally about which is rawness, self expression, skills, positivity and above all originality.

DJ Peril’s single ‘It’s About To Blow’ (featuring Suburban Intellect) is the first single from the  debut album, ‘Rock Ya Baby’ released thru Fly Music/ABC Records/Warner Records.
