Mark Gardner (Ride)
Plus Special Guests, UNDERGROUND LOVERS & Sky Parade (USA)
Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the classic album ‘Going Blank Again’
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Ride’s seminal shoegaze masterpiece “Going Blank Again”, Principal Entertainment are proud to present Mark Gardener with full band performing classic Ride hits – including tracks from that most incendiary of 90s guitar albums – alongside instrumentals he composed and performed for the 2011 MOJO and NME award winning ‘Upside Down’ documentary, plus recent solo and collaboration work and new material to be released later in the year.
Joining Gardener on this very special tour will be much loved Melbourne alternative favourites, Underground Lovers. During the 90’s the ARIA winning Underground Lovers were a driving force on the Australian music scene, they fast became favorites of fans who wanted music that transported them to places beyond the confines of their own souls. Recently reforming after an almost decade long hiatus Underground Lovers are back and will bring an even bigger sense of celebration to these unique shows.
Gardener and his band will re-engage and re-ignite the songs that made Ride such a potent musical force during the 1990s. As a special treat for Australian fans Gardener will be bringing along as special guests, and as his backing band, US psych rockers Sky Parade featuring ex Brian Jonestown Massacre alumni Tommy Dietrick.
By the time Ride had released their second album “Going Blank Again” in 1992 it was widely understood that the Oxford quartet featuring – Mark Gardener, Andy Bell, Loz Colbert and Steve Queralt – were at the forefront of a sonic movement that distilled psychedelia, a post punk ethos and the exploratory use of extreme guitar special effects into an exciting musical amalgam dubbed shoegaze by the British press. Two more albums were to follow before creative tensions saw the band split in 1996.
Since parting ways with Ride, Gardener has released material as a collaborator in a project called The Animal House, which featured ex Ride band mate Loz Colbert, before exploring the acoustic side of his song writing as a live solo artist and then finally releasing his debut solo album These Beautiful Ghosts in 2005. Along with his various EPs and solo albums since, Gardener has worked as an in demand producer, mixer, film soundtrack artist and collaborator with the likes of The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Robin Guthrie (Cocteau Twins), Dive Index and ex Melbourne psych rockers The Morning After Girls.
